In 1993 the Water Services Training Group was established to examine the training needs of staff working in the Water Services area and to make recommendations on how to address these needs.
Their recommendations included the establishment of a Training Centre Network around the Country. In 1996, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government approved the plan for setting up five Training Centres in Ballincollig, Roscrea, Castlebar, Stranorlar and Dublin.
A comprehensive programme of courses has been developed for a broad range of disciplines.
The Group currently consists of a cross section of representatives from the Department of the Environment and Local Government, Local Authorities, FAS, and the National Federation of Group Water Schemes.
